When to goIn general between the late December to mid April the dry season in the best time to visit Montezuma in Costa Rica. From late April, when the rain starts, many of the dirt roads in the backcountry require 4WD vehicles, which can be rented in San José o Tambor.
Visa and documentsCitizens of all nations require at least a passport to enter Costa Rica. Passports should be valid for at least six months beyond the dates of your trip. Passport-carriyng nationals of the following countries are allowed 90 days' stay with no visa: most western European countries Argentina, Canada, Israel, Japan, Panama, Romania, South Corea, UK, USA and Uruguay.
The others are allowed 30 days' stay. Note that these lists are subject to change. When you arrive, your passport will be stamped and during your stay the law requires that you carry you passport at all times. Extending your stay beyond the 30 or 90 days is a time-consuming hassle. It is easier to simply leave the country for 72 hours and then re-enter.
If you are planning to rent a car, your driver's license from your home country is normally accepted within the 30 or 90 days. If you plan to stay longer you'll need to get a Costa Rica driver's license.
