costa rica newspaper today
costa rica newspaper today "El colmo de los colmos" (the last straw), are the words used by Spanish language newspapers this morning, describing the theft of baby Jesus - "el niñito" - in the traditional manger display located on the north side of the entrance to the Teatro Nacional, in downtown San José. The theft occurred in plain daylight. The wood carved image of Jesus is more than 100 years old and believed to be worth thousands on the black market. According to William Monge, chief of restorations at the theatre, the theft occurred late Tuesday afternoon, when there was a problem with central telephone system. "When we experienced problems with the telephone system, the security guard left the display for several minutes to attend to the call and that is when the niñito was stolen", said Monge.
