Jazz Café opened their doors in Escazu

The Escazú Jazz Café opened its doors to the public last night. They pronounced a program of performances; some of them are Las Tortugas a 80´s rock band. In February, a gossip went to Escazu, when the owners of this music club proclaim that they were opening a new live place in the southwest of San José. But the excitement almost disappeared when for more than one month; there were no news and no opened club. Last night, after the finishing a licensing procedure which had slowed the process, the new Jazz Café Escazú was finally opened.

They opened with the show of electronic music band of Santos y Zurdos. Tonight they will have a concert by the costarican composer Manuel Obregón, whose plays his contemporary solo piano. He has climb many stages in Europe and the United States, and record in discs such as “Simbiosis,” “Trance Submarino” and his latest “Piano Malango.”

Obregón starts his show at 10 p.m., which according to Ana Beatriz Fernandez, spokeswoman, this is the time all concerts began. Tomorrow, you can see the jazz group Jazz Expresso on stage. Friday will see a concert by the Costa Rican rock band Las Tortugas. Saturday, the club is waiting for corroboration to endorse a show by popular Costa Rican band Malpaís.

This weekend's uncertain list is similar to the schedule that inaugurated the club, with its multicolored corrugated-zinc sheeted facade; the project cost about $900,000. Inside the standout venue they had a spectacle-filled with an opening celebration with mimes, performance artists and musicians to entertain a multitude of news media and invited guests. It was no surprise that Malpaís played.

Iván Rodríguez, band´s violinist, is also one of Jazz Café's co-owners. The new Jazz Café is located alongside of the highway of Próspero Fernández to Guachipelín near CIMA hospital and Confort Suizo hotel.

It will be closed on Sunday. Admission is ¢4,000 (about $8), according to a press release, though in the future expect it to differ – as happens for tickets on the club in San Pedro depending on the concert.
