We will leave San José and drive towards the Central Pacific Coast. On our way there, we will stop for a delicious and traditional Costa Rican breakfast.
Duration: 11 hours
Location: Sarapiqui, West Caribbean
Estimated Departure from San José: Between 6:30 A.M. – 07:30 A.M.
Then, we will continue to Carara National Park, located at a transition area between the tropical dry forest and tropical rain forest, which makes Carara a heaven for many bird species making the park a popular birdwatching destination.
In addition to scarlet macaws, you might be able to spot orange-chinned parakeets and other parrots, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, motmots, jacamars, manakins, antbirds, and several species of trogons. Several species of water birds inhabit the park as well, like anhinga, some species of heron, egret and kingfishers. At Carara we will hike the park trails for about an hour, experiencing this amazing forest.
After our contact with this picture-perfect flora and fauna, we will visit Punta Leona Resort, which is an exuberant beach hotel, awarded with the Environmental Blue Flag. It is surrounded by 750 acres of tropical rainforest and beautiful beaches with shades of white sand washed by the emerald-green water of the Pacific Ocean.
Time to enjoy the beach, swim in the crystal ocean water or just relax at the swimming pool. Lunch will be served at one of the resort’s restaurants. Before going back to San José we will watch the sunset at the beach. This is definitely a great way to spend your Saturday in Costa Rica!
