The Tourist sector was awarded for National Chamber of Tourism (CANATUR)

The National Chamber of Tourism in Costa Rica (CANATUR) was founded in 1974 as a non-profit organization, with the primary purpose of composing and supporting the private tourist initiative.

CANATUR is an entity that leaderships the business organizations in Costa Rica, which gathers the highest-ranking of official chambers and associations of the private tourist in the country. These members represent the national tourism industry.

CANATUR symbolize the Costa Rica's entire business sector which is consolidated and united. This is one of the national organizations with a prominent role in national events. The mission of CANATUR is to promote the business in the social and economic development of Costa Rica. This idea is to help and contribute the way of living and thinking of Costa Ricans. This is the reason that CANATUR gives a prize to the national touristic sector every year.

The National Chamber of Tourism (CANATUR), reward this sector the past 8th November in the Country Club.

With these awards CANATUR is looking to pay the tributes to those people, enterprises and institutions that have been highlighted with their contributions to the development of tourism in Costa Rica

Each year CANATUR rewards 10 categories. The winners of 2007 are:

  1. Acknowledgment to the Touristic Merit: “Luis Paulino Jimenez” prize, in the category of Hotel Industry.
    Winner: Cuna Del Angel Hotel.
  2. Acknowledgment to the Touristic Merit: “Archie Fields” prize, in the category of Tour Operator.
    Winner: Expediciones Tropicales.
  3. Acknowledgment to the Touristic Merit: “Vicente Lines” prize, corresponding to the Travel agency.
    Winner: TURVISA.
  4. Acknowledgment to the Touristic Merit: “Roberth Smith”prize, corresponding to an Airline.
    Winner: Delta Air Lines.
  5. Acknowledgment to the Touristic Merit: “Miguel Trejos “prize, corresponding to a Rent a Car:
    Winner: Budget Rent a Car.
  6. Acknowledgment to the Touristic Merit: “Hans Van der Wiellen”, prize in the category of restaurant.
    Winner: Restaurante El Chicote.
  7. Acknowledgment to the Touristic Merit: “Lorena Argüello”, prize in the category of Yearly Journalist.
    Winner: Sr. Juan Amiguetti, Explorer Newspaper
  8. Acknowledgment to the Touristic Merit: “Social Business Responsibility”
    Winners: Mapache Rent a Car and Nature Air.
  9. Acknowledgment to the Touristic Merit “Hernán Chaverri” prize in the category of Tourism Regional Chambers.
    Winners: Defense Association and Basin Development of Arenal,
    (ADECLA), Tourism Chamber of Guanacaste (CATURGUA) and the Chamber of Tourism in Sarapiqui, (CATUSA).
  10. Acknowledgment to the Touristic Merit: “José Miguel Castro Echeverría” prize in the category of the Business Tourist Man of the Year.
    Winner: Sr. Salvador Marrero, General Manager of Continental Air Lines.

According Gonzalo Vargas, President of CANATUR, "the delivery of these awards is one way to recognize the hard work of many people who are struggling every day for improving the national tourism industry through projects with high quality services. For CANATUR it is a joy and an honor to perform this award, we hope each year more rewarding of businesses, institutional and individual awards toward tourism.
