The second busiest airport in Costa Rica is the Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR), located in the northern province of Guanacaste, specifically in the city of Liberia.

This airport serves both international and domestic flights, and its convenient location (only minutes away from some of the most popular beaches in the country) makes it a smart choice for travelers.

TACA, American Airlines, Continental, FINNAIR, Norwest Airlines, Royal Air, North American Airlines, USA 3000, Canada 3000, Trans Meridian, Miami Air, Air Plus Comet and US Airways are some of the airline companies with flights to and from the Liberia airport.
It is highly recommended to book and purchase your Costa Rica flight tickets well in advance, contacting the airline company directly or through a travel agency, since most agencies have special rates and deals on many airlines that fly to Costa Rica.

Airfares will vary depending on the season and the city you’re travelling from. If you are visiting Costa Rica from the United States or Canada, the average flight costs in US dollars (including taxes and additional charges) are as follows:

  • $350 - $450 from Miami
  • $550 - $700 from New York
  • $650 - $850 from Los Angeles
