Unique Ecosystems

The Talamanca Mountain Range features an incredible diversity of ecosystems that change dramatically with elevation.

Lower elevations are covered by tropical rainforests rich in wildlife. As the altitude increases, dense cloud forests appear, filled with mosses, bromeliads, orchids, and towering oak trees. Above approximately 3,000 meters (9,843 feet), visitors encounter the páramo, a rare alpine ecosystem characterized by hardy shrubs, grasses, and unique plant species adapted to cold temperatures and strong winds.

These ecosystems are essential for water conservation and provide habitat for countless species.
