When Is the Best Time for Birdwatching?

Birdwatching is excellent throughout the year in Costa Rica.

  • December to April (Dry Season): Comfortable weather, easier hiking conditions, and excellent visibility.
  • May to November (Green Season): Lush forests, fewer tourists, active breeding behavior, and many migratory birds begin arriving.
  • September to November: Peak migration season for numerous North American species traveling south.

Early mornings are generally the most productive time, as birds are most active shortly after sunrise.
