Discover the heart of Costa Rica
After breakfast we will begin exploring San José, the capital and cultural center of the country.
This tour is an introduction to the history and daily life of Costa Rica.
A city full of history
We will visit some of the most representative places of the capital, including the National Theater, one of the great architectural jewels of San José.
Built at the end of the 19th century, the theater reflects a fundamental era in the country's history and remains one of its most emblematic buildings.
During the tour we will also see other points of historical and cultural interest, such as:
The old railway station.
The former National Liquor Factory.
The Supreme Electoral Tribunal.
The Legislative Assembly.
The Metallic Building.
The Central Market.
Different parks and public spaces of the city.
More than a simple tourist visit, the tour lets you understand how Costa Rica has developed and learn about aspects of its history, culture, economy and daily life.
The legacy of pre-Columbian gold
We will also visit the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum, where we can get closer to the extraordinary metalworking tradition of the indigenous peoples of Costa Rica.
To finish, we will visit a workshop specializing in jewelry and gold pieces, where we will learn more about the techniques used by our ancestors to work metals.
A first look at Costa Rica before beginning our tour through its natural landscapes.
Overnight in San José
Today we leave the city behind to head toward the mountains of Alajuela.
The landscape changes quickly as we climb: coffee plantations, ferns, flowers, strawberries and increasingly lush vegetation appear.
The aroma of Costa Rica
Our first great experience will be at Doka Coffee Estate.
On an authentic plantation we will learn about the process behind one of the most important products of Costa Rican history and culture.
We will discover how coffee is grown, harvested and processed and learn about the traditional techniques used to achieve a high-quality product.
The experience also begins with a delicious breakfast.
Facing the crater of Poás Volcano
We will continue toward Poás Volcano National Park.
Here nature shows one of its most impressive faces.
The enormous main crater, the fumaroles and the mountain landscape remind us that Costa Rica lies in one of the most active volcanic regions on the planet.
We will follow the designated trail to the crater lookout and will have time to contemplate the landscape.
The visit to the park lasts approximately an hour and a half, including the walk to the lookout, the observation time and the visit to the Botos Lagoon area, according to current conditions and regulations.
La Paz: water and tropical forest
After the volcano we will continue to La Paz Waterfall Gardens.
Here we will once again encounter a completely different landscape.
The trails cross the forest and lead to a spectacular waterfall surrounded by tropical vegetation.
During the visit we will also be able to see different spaces dedicated to the fauna of Costa Rica, including the hummingbird gallery, the serpentarium, the aviary and the frog exhibit.
Afterwards we will enjoy lunch before returning to San José.
Volcano, coffee, forest and waterfalls in a single day.
Overnight in San José.
Sarchí + Arenal Volcano + Baldi Hot Springs
Today our journey begins toward one of the most famous natural regions of Costa Rica: Arenal.
On the way we will make a stop in Sarchí, a town renowned for its craft tradition.
Sarchí: Costa Rican art and tradition
Sarchí is known as one of the country's great craft centers.
Here the colorful typical oxcarts and the artisanal designs are part of a tradition that represents Costa Rican rural identity.
During the visit we will have the opportunity to learn about this cultural legacy and, depending on the conditions, observe the famous ox-drawn cart of enormous dimensions.
We will continue our tour toward the Arenal Volcano region.
The majestic Arenal Volcano
As we approach La Fortuna we will begin to see how the landscape changes.
The imposing Arenal Volcano dominates the horizon and its forests and mountains create one of the most recognizable natural settings in the country.
We will enjoy lunch before continuing to our next experience.
An afternoon among the hot springs
Afterwards the time will come to relax at Baldi Hot Springs.
The thermal waters, naturally heated by the region's geothermal activity, offer the perfect setting to rest after a day of touring.
You can enjoy the different pools surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and let the warmth of the water do the rest.
To close the day we will enjoy a dinner with a privileged view of the volcano, whenever weather conditions allow it to be seen.
Afterwards we will continue to our hotel in Arenal.
A day that combines craftsmanship, volcanoes, nature and relaxation.
Overnight in Arenal.
After breakfast we will continue toward Monteverde.
The trip will take us from the volcanic lands of Arenal to the mountains of the Tilarán Mountain Range.
As we climb, the temperature drops and the landscape becomes increasingly humid and green.
Welcome to the cloud forest
Monteverde means “green mountain,” and the name describes the landscape perfectly.
The mist, the humidity and the altitude create the ideal conditions for an extraordinary ecosystem.
The trees are covered in mosses, bromeliads, ferns and other plants that take advantage of the constant humidity.
Monteverde is one of the most renowned nature destinations in Costa Rica and a privileged place to observe the country's biodiversity.
On arrival you will have the afternoon free.
You can walk around the surroundings, visit the town, enjoy a coffee or simply rest and let yourself be enveloped by the cool mountain atmosphere.
Overnight in Monteverde.
Hanging Bridges Tour
Today we will discover Monteverde from a different perspective.
After breakfast we will venture into the cloud forest to have an experience that combines nature, adventure and spectacular landscapes.
Walking above the forest
The tour includes six hanging bridges of different lengths and heights.
Some are suspended dozens of meters above the ground, allowing you to observe the forest from a privileged perspective.
In total we will cover approximately 1.7 miles of trails and bridges, crossing different environments of the cloud forest.
As we advance, the landscape changes constantly.
The mist moves among the trees, the branches are covered in moss and bromeliads and the sound of the birds accompanies the walk.
An experience to observe
The bridges are not only an adventure.
They also let you get closer to the life that inhabits the upper parts of the forest.
With patience and a little luck we will be able to observe birds and other animals among the vegetation.
After the tour you will have the afternoon free to continue discovering Monteverde.
An experience that lets you literally walk among the clouds.
Overnight in Monteverde.
After breakfast we will begin our return to San José.
We will leave behind the mountains and the cloud forest to descend once again toward the Central Valley.
During the trip you will be able to observe how the landscape changes and how the mountain vegetation gradually gives way to warmer, more populated areas.
On arriving in San José you will have the rest of the day free.
You can take the opportunity to do some shopping, visit a place that was still pending or simply rest after the expedition.
It will be your last night in Costa Rica.
Overnight in San José.
After breakfast the time will come to say goodbye.
Our private transfer will take you from your hotel to Juan Santamaría International Airport to catch your return flight.
In eight days you will have traveled through some of the landscapes that best represent the diversity of Costa Rica:
city, coffee, volcanoes, waterfalls, hot springs, mountains and cloud forest.
You will leave with photographs, memories and the feeling of having discovered many different worlds within a single country.
Pura vida and until the next expedition!
