On the way to Poás Volcano, we will visit the Doka Coffee Plantation to enjoy a delicious breakfast and a guided tour of the coffee plantation, where we will learn about the current and traditional techniques used by experts to process our golden bean and produce one of the best coffees in Costa Rica.
Our experience begins at Doka Coffee Estate, where we’ll discover the traditions and craftsmanship behind Costa Rica’s world-renowned coffee. During the tour, we’ll learn about the coffee-making process, from cultivation and harvesting to drying, roasting, and tasting. We’ll also visit the historic coffee mill and learn how Costa Rica’s fertile volcanic soils, high elevation, and climate contribute to the exceptional quality of its coffee.
After the coffee plantation experience, we’ll continue our journey to the impressive Poás Volcano National Park. During the ascent, you’ll appreciate the changing microclimates and the rich vegetation characteristic of Costa Rica’s Central Valley. Along the way, you’ll see extensive strawberry fields, ferns, ornamental flowers, cattle ranches, and spectacular panoramic views that make the trip an unforgettable scenic experience.
Upon arriving at Poás Volcano, we’ll have ample time to admire one of the world’s largest and most impressive volcanic craters, famous for its sulfur fumaroles and geothermal activity. We’ll also explore the park’s trails while learning about the volcano’s geological history, its phreatic and fumarolic activity, and the diverse ecosystems found within this protected area.
Rising to 2,708 meters (8,885 feet) above sea level, this majestic volcano is one of Costa Rica’s most visited active volcanoes and an essential destination for lovers of nature, photography, and adventure.
Afterward, we’ll head to the famous La Paz Waterfall Gardens, one of the country’s most renowned private nature reserves. There, we’ll explore trails surrounded by lush rainforest and visit attractions such as the aviary, Costa Rica’s largest butterfly observatory, the hummingbird gallery, the serpentarium, the frog exhibit, the monkey sanctuary, and the feline refuge.
At lunchtime, we’ll enjoy a delicious buffet with typical Costa Rican and international options in a stunning natural setting. After lunch, we’ll hike along paved trails that will lead us to three spectacular natural waterfalls formed by the La Paz River, considered among the most beautiful in Costa Rica.
It’s important to note that this hike takes place within a tropical rainforest and includes some sections with steps. However, the trails are paved and designed to provide a safe and enjoyable experience while taking in the extraordinary biodiversity and scenic beauty of the area.
